The Merry List - Our Favorite Christmas Movies

Favorite Christmas Movies

With the holiday season in full swing, one of the best ways to get into the spirit is by watching a classic Christmas movie. It's a great way to share a special bonding experience with family members as we all gather around and enjoy some festive fun. Watching a memorable Christmas film can provide laughter and inspiration, as well as create lasting memories for everyone involved.

Christmas time is one of our favorite times of the year, and it's not just because of the festive decorations and delicious treats; it's also because we get to watch our favorite Christmas movie with our family! Dee says, “Every year, without fail, we all gather around the tv for a fun and cozy Holiday movie watching session. It's a special feeling knowing that we have this tradition that we can look forward to each holiday season. Watching the movies is always a good time with our sons that is filled with laughter, joy, and nostalgia.”

Elf movie scene

Dee’s favorite Christmastime movie is Elf. It stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, an elf who travels to New York City to find his true identity. As a result of his journey, he brings joy and laughter to his newfound family and friends throughout the city. The character of Buddy is so lovable and hilarious that Bre says she can’t help but smile whenever she watches it.

“His wild antics make me laugh until tears are streaming down my face, like when he’s excited about Santa’s arrival at the department store but finds out it’s not the Santa he knows! His enthusiasm for life and love for everyone around him makes me want to do something special for others during the holiday season too."

For Shane, he loves to settle down in front of the TV with a warm cup of hot chocolate. “For me, this is one of my most treasured holiday activities. Every year when I watch my favorite Christmas movie, it immediately brings back memories from childhood and all the wonderful moments I’ve shared with my family over the years.”

Tim Allen - The Santa Clause movie

The Santa Clause is one of Shane’s favorite movies of all time. “When I watch this movie with my two sons, it brings me so much joy and laughter.” The story follows Scott Calvin, an average father who one day wakes up in the morning to realize that he has taken on the responsibility of being Santa Clause. This was after he had accidentally caused old Saint Nick’s demise while trying to fix his roof one Christmas Eve. It's such a funny concept that never gets old! The way Scott tries to adjust himself into this strange new role is comical and inspiring at the same time. It teaches us valuable lessons about believing in yourself and trusting your instincts despite all the obstacles you might come across in life. All these lessons make The Santa Clause even more enjoyable for me each time I watch it!

The interns, Moose and Lulu also have their favorite Christmas movie. Can you guess what it is? If you said, “Santa Buddies” then you got it right! The movie follows five golden retriever pups who discover that they have special abilities granted by Santa himself. These pups must work together to stop an evil toy factory owner from ruining the holiday season. The message of friendship, courage and loyalty really stands out in this movie.

Watching Christmas movies

What better way to spend quality time with family this holiday season than watching classic Christmas movies together? Movies seem to have the ability to bring us closer and create a sense of warmth and comfort that can only be found at the holidays. For many families, gathering around the tv to watch a beloved Christmas movie is an important part of their holiday celebration. Whether it’s a lighthearted comedy or an emotional drama, there’s something special about watching your favorite Christmas movie as a family.

For culture lovers, access to affordable events is about more than saving money; it’s about ensuring everyone in the city of Raleigh can engage with creativity and community, regardless of budget. This guide helps you find cheap tickets Raleigh NC events that allow you to enjoy live music, crafts, pop-up art installations, and more, without making cost a barrier.“Affordability in arts access ensures everyone can join Raleigh’s vibrant creative community. Culture should never come at a high price.” – Local Arts AdvocateDiscount ticket options, student and senior rates, and pay-what-you-can nights mean that everyone has a chance to experience the rich tapestry of events in Raleigh. Beyond personal enjoyment, your attendance supports local artists, venues, and small businesses, reinforcing the area’s reputation for an inclusive, accessible arts landscape. Enjoying the arts shouldn’t be reserved for special occasions—with the right strategies, you can bring spark and connection to every week.Key Strategies to Score Cheap Tickets Raleigh NC Events Locals Swear ByMonitoring event calendars for last-minute dealsSigning up for venue email blasts (e.g., North Hills, Midtown Farmers, Downtown Raleigh)Following social media for pop-up rush salesLeveraging student, teacher, and senior discounts at North Carolina institutionsVisiting venue box offices in-person for unpublished offersScore the best cheap tickets Raleigh NC events by being proactive and tuned-in. Smart locals are always ready to check ticket price on event calendars—venues like North Hills and Midtown Farmers release last-minute rush deals on their websites, social media, and newsletters. Many popular spots in downtown Raleigh offer walk-up tickets for a fraction of online prices, especially close to start time.Don’t overlook the value of signing up for email notifications from venues and local institutions. You’ll often receive early access to flash sales or pay-what-you-can nights at local theaters and galleries. When you’re eligible, bring your student or senior ID—institutions across the Triangle, from University of North Carolina performing arts centers to community theaters, offer exclusive rates. Finally, showing up at the box office in person (especially on a weeknight) may yield special discounts you won’t find online. Persistence—and being on venues’ “insider lists”—pays off.Cheap Tickets, Free Museums: Raleigh's Best-Kept Secret for Artistic Date NightsSkip the generic "grab coffee and walk around" date night advice — Raleigh's actual advantage is that its best artistic venues have built free or near-free access into their business model, not as a discount but as the default. The North Carolina Museum of Art is the anchor here: admission is free, with fees only for specific programs, exhibitions, and large tours, and the museum park spans 164 acres of art-filled green space with an inspired mix of concerts, films, and special events. That means a couple can wander galleries holding Renaissance paintings, Rodin sculptures, and contemporary photography for zero dollars, then decide whether to upgrade to a ticketed evening at the Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Theater, which draws touring acts with general admission lawn seating and natural acoustics — effectively letting you test-drive the "free" version of a date before committing to the paid one.The same logic extends across town: CAM Raleigh's admission is now free, the Gregg Museum of Art & Design at NC State is free and hosts community events, and the City of Raleigh Museum is free as well, which means a genuinely varied gallery-hop date — contemporary art, design, and local history in one evening — costs nothing but parking. The other underused move is timing a date around Raleigh's rotating small-venue theater and live-performance calendar rather than defaulting to a big-ticket show. Raleigh Little Theater, for instance, runs mainstage productions like a stage adaptation of Clue for $9 to $19 a ticket — a fraction of what a comparable night out at a major venue costs, and intimate enough that it actually reads as a "date," not just an errand.Pair that with a stroll through the museum park's outdoor sculpture installations beforehand (free, and better lit for conversation than most restaurants), and you've built an artistic evening that rivals a $150 date night for under $40 total.*The one caveat worth flagging: special fundraiser exhibitions, like NCMA's Art in Bloom, are the rare occasion visitors pay to enter the permanent collections, so it's worth checking a museum's event calendar before you go if you're planning around the free-admission assumption.Best Cheap Tickets Raleigh NC Events and VenuesEvent or VenueTypeRegular DiscountLocationInsider TipArtspace First Friday (plus alternates)Galleries & WalksPay-what-you-canDowntown RaleighArrive late for fewer crowds & bonus artist demosDix Park Outdoor MoviesMovies/MusicFree-to-attendDix ParkBring picnic and low chairs for best comfortNorth Hills Concert Lawn SeriesLive MusicAlways freeNorth HillsPair with happy hour menus for full date experienceMidtown Farmers Market PerformancesOpen-Air ArtsPop-up shows free or donationMidtown ParkLook for vendors offering discount coupons at eventsChapel Hill Arts CenterPerforming ArtsStudent rush discountsChapel HillCheck ticket prices at box office for last-minute dealsTop 10 Cheap Tickets Raleigh NC Events for Artistic Date NightsFirst Friday alternatives: Artspace and beyond in downtown Raleigh. Zine swaps invite you to pick up one-of-a-kind art books and comics for pocket change. With unbeatable skyline views and a relaxed vibe, it’s no wonder this park holds a top spot for affordable adventure.Chapel Hill’s Influence: Affordable Arts Cross the TriangleStudent rush tickets at performing arts centersAcademic calendar cultural nightsOpen gallery hopsPoetry readings in nearby venuesThe affordable arts movement stretches well beyond the Raleigh city limits. In Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina students and locals alike enjoy rush ticket programs at campus theaters and performing arts centers, enabling spontaneous cultural adventures at a fraction of the usual cost. These policies often extend to educators and seniors, so bring your ID for maximum savings!Throughout the academic year, Chapel Hill’s arts district buzzes with special cultural nights, open gallery hops, and free-to-attend poetry readings at both college venues and neighboring downtown spaces. These events provide additional opportunities for Triangle residents to access world-class talent and inspiration, further proving that affordable, inventive date nights are always within reach—whether you’re enjoying weekly favorites or exploring a new scene.Insider's List: Rush Ticket Policies & Arts Access Programs (With Locations)Generic advice to "ask about rush tickets" is nearly useless without knowing which door to knock on — so here's what's actually available, venue by venue. Raleigh Little Theatre (301 Pogue St.) sells rush tickets in person at its box office two hours before curtain — $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors, or military with valid ID, limited to two per person and subject to availability. Fifteen minutes down the road in Chapel Hill, PlayMakers Repertory Company (Center for Dramatic Art, 150 Country Club Road) runs one of the best deals in the Triangle: $10 tickets for any UNC student with a OneCard, up to two per card per performance, plus 50% off for anyone under 18 and 15% off for military members, veterans, and their immediate families — no student ID from UNC specifically required for that last discount. The access programs worth knowing about, though, go beyond rush lines. Nearly every major museum in the Triangle honors Museums for All, a national program that gives SNAP EBT cardholders free or reduced admission at more than 1,600 participating museums nationwide with just an EBT card and photo ID. At the North Carolina Museum of Art (2110 Blue Ridge Road), that matters less for the free permanent collection and more for discounted access to ticketed special exhibitions, films, and performing arts programs — so even NCMA's "paid" tier stays affordable if you know to ask at the desk. *It's worth confirming details directly with each venue before you go, since discount terms and blackout dates shift by season, but between rush lines at Raleigh Little Theatre and PlayMakers, and EBT-based access at NCMA and other Triangle museums, there's a real, documented network of affordability built into this arts scene — not just a rumor of "unpublished discounts" you have to go fishing for.Parks like Dix Park partner with local businesses to host seasonal free concerts, open-air film screenings, and even hands-on art workshops. Don’t hesitate to ask box office staff about unpublished discounts, or follow venue social media for news on ticket giveaways and limited events. Take a little time to research, and you’ll unlock a wide variety of budget-friendly options across the Triangle.People Also Ask About Cheap Tickets Raleigh NC EventsWhere can I find last-minute cheap tickets for Raleigh arts events?Check local venue social media accounts and email newsletters, especially for last-minute rush tickets. Whether you’re dancing under the lights in North Hills, laughing at Midtown’s stand-up shows, or watching the sun set at a free Dix Park concert, locals prove that the Triangle’s spirit isn’t measured by ticket price—it’s measured by your willingness to explore.Long Time Resident Tips:Making the Most of Raleigh NC Events and Finding Cheap TicketsMost guides to cheap Raleigh tickets just tell you to follow venues on social media and hope for flash sales — useful, but not exactly local knowledge. The real edge in this city comes from knowing that Raleigh's venue mix works in your favor if you're flexible about where you see a show rather than fixating on one venue. For example - A touring act that's pricey at Coastal Credit Union Music Park or Red Hat Amphitheater will often route a smaller, cheaper date through the Lincoln Theatre, The Ritz, or The Pour House Music Hall in the same season, and comedy specifically clusters at Goodnights, where weeknight and early shows routinely undercut weekend prices by a wide margin. It also helps that Raleigh runs two ticket economies side by side: the paid concert circuit and a genuinely deep bench of free or donation-based programming — First Night Raleigh, the tree lighting at the Capitol, and the free-entry portions of festivals like Brewgaloo (where the festival itself costs nothing and you only pay for drink tickets if you want to sample) — so pricing out an event isn't just about discount codes, it's about knowing which version of the event is free. The second thing local ticket-hunters figure out fast is that Raleigh's college-town rhythm (NC State, plus Duke and UNC a short drive away) creates predictable soft spots in demand — Sunday-through-Tuesday shows, matinees, and dates that overlap with home football games at Carter-Finley tend to have more last-minute inventory and price drops than a generic "buy on Tuesday" rule would suggest.Combine that with checking secondary marketplaces like SeatGeek and Ticketmaster's resale listings a day or two before the show, once initial FOMO pricing has settled, and you'll consistently beat the sticker price without needing a promo code at all.Key Takeaways for Cheap Tickets Raleigh NC Events and Arts LoversRaleigh offers dozens of low-cost choicesStay tuned into venue updates for dealsSmart locals blend arts, food, and outdoor fun affordablyAccess to diverse cultural experiences is for everyoneStart Your Next Adventure with Cheap Tickets Raleigh NC EventsFind More Raleigh Area Info at: BreezyRaleigh.comAffordable, memorable date nights in Raleigh are always within reach—embrace the arts, support your local scene, and make lasting memories every week.If you’re inspired to make the most of Raleigh’s vibrant arts scene, why not take your local adventures a step further?
